The Intan Nyonya Chang 2023

Known as Kueh Chang or Kueh Chang Babi, a combination of Hokkien & Malay words meaning “Meat or Pork Dumpling”, the Peranakan Kueh Chang is sweet, consists of a refreshing saute of minced lean pork, winter melon strips and a special spice blend of roasted ground ketumbar, or coriander seeds. Nyonyas use a mixture of large pandan and bamboo leaves to wrap their dumplings, giving the Kueh Chang a unique fragrance.  The use of the lovely bunga telang or blue pea flower will also optically differentiate the Kueh Chang with hints of indigo blue in the pulot, or glutinous rice. Testimonials from Those Who Savoured The Intan’s Peranakan Kueh Chang “Look at the ratio of rice to the protein! A little larger than the regular bak changs, you know you’re getting your money’s worth. 😍” “This is very good! I vote it a Die-Die-Must-Try! Not the usual bak chang. You can taste the protein in your second...

Cheryl mesmerised the crowd with her culinary skills, whipping out a mean Kueh Pie Tee at the Guangzhou Library, filling the air with the fragrant smell of tao chioh! And when she was not cooking, she was busy sharing with visitors the skilful art of Peranakan Beading. Many thanks to Singapore Consulate General in Guangzhou for the kind invitation and super warm hospitality. View all the pictures here.  ...

TRANSITIONS II is a collaborative piece of theatre performance, devised, written and performed by the Theatre Studies & Drama students of Tampines Junior College. Come and join us in this heart-touching and uplifting performance. Synopsis: A Peranakan saying goes, harta dunia nanti semua pulang balek dunia. The world’s riches must eventually be returned to the world. Of course, our uniquely Singaporean obsessions today are on more pragmatic sides of life: location of the next BTO, new ERP rates, COE prices issued every quarter, and how to beat the GST hike. Less philosophical musings, but many will argue as useful. Perhaps, what city-dwellers like you and I really need is a renewed experience of what doesn’t change. Whence we came, the identity that binds us, and the things we call home; the fount upon which we...
