Known as Kueh Chang or Kueh Chang Babi, a combination of Hokkien & Malay words meaning “Meat or Pork Dumpling”, the Peranakan Kueh Chang is sweet, consists of a refreshing saute of minced lean pork, winter melon strips and a special spice blend of roasted ground ketumbar, or coriander seeds. Nyonyas use a mixture of large pandan and bamboo leaves to wrap their dumplings, giving the Kueh Chang a unique fragrance.
And if not for hygiene and safety reasons due to Covid-19, the lovely bunga telang or blue pea flower will optically differentiate the Kueh Chang with hints of indigo blue in the pulot, or glutinous rice.

Testimonials from Those Who Savoured The Intan’s Peranakan Kueh Chang
“I just tried. Can taste the spices & feel the tangkwa. Feels very homemade like my late grandmother used to make in her huge peranakan kitchen over wood fire at Lorong L Telok Kurau Road. Brought back memories” ~ Sue Anne
“I just savoured the best, most authentic Nyonya ‘Bak Chang’ I’ve had in years. They’re fragrant, delicious and remind me of the home-made “kueh chang babi” that my auntie used to make in her kitchen back in the ’70s. The glutinous rice isn’t too heavy. As for the fillings, oh the taste! Sweet in just the right way, moist, the pork isn’t overly done. Not chunky. The texture, just right. Pity its missing the blue tint from the Bunga Telang flower (hygiene concerns thanks to Covid). Aside from that, this is as real as it gets. There are many commercial offerings out there and among those, some very good ones ! But this one has that home-made feel to it. Like it was made by someone’s auntie. Because it probably was. Never before have I been tempted to have a second ‘chang’. That says enough. Thanks, Intan ! ~ Kenneth YM Wong
“…..this is one Nyonya Chang to die for” ~ Selinna Tsang
“This is very good ! I vote it a Die-Die-Must-Try ! Not the usual Bak Chang. You can taste the protein in your second bite. Very smooth and delish ! I’m ordering some more for next week! ” ~ Catherine Bretault
